World's Strongest Man Competition coming to Rockingham Speedway

Track to host car deadlift and truck pull Sept. 17, fans admitted free

Rockingham, N.C. (September 13, 2011) - The muscle on display at Rockingham Speedway on Saturday will be more of the literal sort than the track is accustomed to hosting.

Replacing the power generated by 750-horsepower stock cars will be the brute strength of the MET-Rx World's Strongest Man (WSM) Competition. The speedway is playing host to two qualifying events for this year's WSM on Sept. 17: the truck pull and the car deadlift. Wingate University in Wingate, N.C. and the NASCAR Hall of Fame are also hosting qualifying events Sept. 15 - Sept. 18.

The final events will be held on Sept. 21 and 22 at Wingate University.

"We are couldn't be more excited to have North Carolina serve as the host for the World's Strongest Man Competition this year," said Lisa Comber, event producer for IMG Sports Media, who are put on the event. "While Wingate is hosting the finals, we wanted to showcase the other things that North Carolina has to offer. I love Rockingham Speedway. It is a great venue and we are happy that it is part of our competition."

Rockingham Speedway President Andy Hillenburg sees the WSM as a great fit with the current lineup of events at the track.

"This track has played host to some great events in its history," said Hillenburg, "there is no doubt that this will be one more that we can add to this list. Anyone who has ever seen one of these competitions can tell you how exciting they are. I can't wait to see the amazing feats of strength."

The truck pull event gets underway at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 with the car deadlift to follow at 2:30 p.m. Admission into the infield is free for spectators.

"The tunnel at Gate B will be open and we invite everyone to come out and watch the competition," said Hillenburg.

Racing returns to the Rockingham Speedway on November 5 with the running of the UARA and CARS Pro Cup American 200 doubleheader. The Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals hit the track on November 26 for the Polar Bear 150. NASCAR makes its much-anticipated return to Rockingham with the Camping World Truck Series Good Sam Roadside Assistance 200 presented by Cheerwine on April 14-15, 2012.
